You won’t be able to just pick a high level lock if you’ve never picked an easy one before. To level up these skills you simply have to practice it. There’s a skill for lock picking, reading, collecting herbs, horse riding, etc. Almost everything you can do in this game has a skill attached for it. Although I think RDR2 is the better, more polished game, I do think KCD provides a deeper experience, especially if you’re a fan of RPGs. But like in RDR2, these individual tasks come together to really place the player in thirteenth century Bohemia. You spend a lot of your time doing mundane tasks, such as cleaning your sword and repairing your weapons, taking a bath, or hunting animals. I would say the most apt comparison I can think of for it would be Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Kingdom Come’s gameplay is what separates it from other games. I thought this was a great touch and really takes the realism to another level. Some of these towns actually have the same layout to this day, and you can certainly see a resemblance between the real life map and the in game map. Even the towns were recreated with the accurate layout. Although the story was forgettable for me, I did think it was nice that the plot was based in real Bohemian history. You play as Henry, who takes up a sword and becomes a knight for a neighboring lord after his parents were killed during a battle. The story of Kingdom Come is nothing special. Given some more polishing, KCD could have been a truly special game, worthy of being called a masterpiece, but as it is right now, the game is held back by its graphical issues and bugginess. KCD certainly has its fair share of flaws, but I can’t deny that the overall experience is phenomenal. This being Warhorse Studio’s first major release, it was reasonable to expect plenty of blemishes and missteps, especially for such a massive game. This focus on realism makes KCD one of the most unique and immersive games I have ever played. Kingdom Come Deliverance is an RPG taking place in medieval Bohemia with an extreme focus on realism.
